Tips for starting a New Age support group

I had a New Age support group that met weekly for 15 years. The makeup of the group varied over the years but there were regulars who were there almost from the start. In order to start such a group, you need to find a way to gather together like-minded people. The New Age is a pretty scattered phenomenon. You will need to narrow down your interest and have a group that focuses on that one interest.

For example, my group was formed around channeling. There was one lady who began channeling when she was in one of my other groups. We decided to start a group around her channeling. As more people came to the group and we talked about channeling, others in the group began to channel, including myself. At the height of this, we probably had at least five people who channeled at least one entity if not two every week.

We would record all of the channeling and I would transcribe it for the next week. It was lots of fun and we got some interesting information. We also talked about other things besides channeling, such as reincarnation, out-of-body-experiences, and various New Age systems of thought. Group members were involved in different New Age things and reported on what they had read or experienced.

We always shared some positive experience from the week. We always shared what was going on in our lives and supported one another in times of need. I always did a guided meditation and we always had coffee and tea and sometimes goodies.

I saw a lot of growth in that time among the people who came to the group and in myself as well. There is a lot of hunger out there for metaphysical and spiritual information and small groups can be a safe way to explore and talk about your experiences and your questions.
