The importance of seeking a balance in positive news to combat the negative

Personally, I don’t even want to “combat” the negative. I prefer to rise above it with super hero power leaps in the air dodging bullets like Neo or Trinity in the midst of the Matrix Madness. Anyone interested in balance? How about some strategies and recipes to apply a dose of natural sweetness to the media’s bitter stew?

First let’s start with the media itself. Invest some time in your cable or media guide to find your local public television stations and networks. Scan your AM and FM dials to find your local public radio stations which will most likely offer internet programming and pod casts. Most of these organizations are committed to offering you that much needed balance in world, national and local news along with healthy doses of fine arts, entertainment, and alternative music for extra spice and sweetness.

For print, check out your local health food or gourmet food stores for alternative magazines, weeklies and newsletters. You’ll open yourself to a totally new perspective on things while grabbing a tofu pie or chef’s surprise. Doesn’t tickle your fancy? Check out a local metaphysical bookstore and/or gift shop. Try flipping a page or two or listening to a lecture. The New Age, metaphysical or holistic community might strike your fancy and offer positive balance to the barrage of negativity in mass media outlets.

Don’t forget take a look at your immediate environment. Are you really tuning your internal frequency to attract the positive? Are you listening to the victories your children may want to share after school or camp? How about your partner’s latest triumph at the office or workplace? Besides that, are you gathering joys and accomplishments from your own daily experiences to share enthusiastically with others in return? Every little bit helps.

Finally, dabble in the arts! What would it hurt to go to a museum or live performance? What kind of news are people sharing in these places? You may also find your local arts and entertainment weekly in the lobby stands of these venues offering announcements of upcoming events and alternative views on local news, editorials and elections.

Regardless of your tastes and interests, there are numerous outlets for positive and healthy information to inform you and lift your spirits. Remember that regardless of the media’s power, you control whether your mind and body ingest health or hype.
