So you’ve decided to create your own Tarot cards? Fantastic! Strap on your metaphysical parachute and be prepared for your own personal sky dive into the vast sea of what the famed psychologist Carl Jung termed “the collective unconscious”. If you pursue this eclectic and ever-expanding field of occult study, rest assured that you will open the doorway into a deeper understanding of esoteric studies in general as well as your personal lexicon of symbols.

As in all occult studies, the first handy piece of information to grasp is that the word ‘occult’ itself simply means “hidden”. Let’s examine the concept of studying what is occult. Looking within for one’s truth is a form of hidden learning. There are as many paths for looking within as there have been human beings who yearn for meaning and depth during their lifetime. Tarot cards are based upon profound insights into the stages of life we experience in our journey from before birth to death. They encompass in a picture format all the elements and challenges a person must face at one point or another; relationships, career, triumph, despair, and enlightenment. As one gains familiarity with the language of the symbols themselves, this allows the intuition to enter into the process and assist in the interpretation of what unfolds through the lay-out of cards. It’s important, before beginning one’s own interpretation, to understand that you will be working with archetypal energies that encompass a symbolic record of human experiences.
