Evolution and intelligent design: Taking sides

Since the introduction of the scientific eye to the human race, man has pulled himself away from intuition and towards his physical senses. What does this mean in relation to the search for the truth of existence? For a conventional scientist it means searching for what he can’t see through what he can see with his eyes. From the beginning this would seem like an inherent paradox in the method. For the spiritual man it means taking in what he sees around him and incorporating that fully into his internal personal experience. I will share two interesting examples with you that point to an intelligent designer.
The debate about the origin of the human race is as strong today as it has ever been. Some people believe that we all came from Africa. Some believe that we sprouted up in different parts of the world. They all seem to try to make the same kind of points and connections. The connection that I will introduce has to do with the indigenous cultures of the world. It seems that in about every society there is an ancient indigenous population struggling to maintain its existence. In Japan there is the Ainu people who have just recently been ‘officially’ recognized by the materialistic society that doesn’t like to look at them. In Alaska there are the Yupik Indians. In Mexico there are the Terahumara. In Australia there are the Aborigines. There are many more that could be mentioned, and as with the Ainu all of these cultures struggle against the dominance of the materialistic society they share land with. Within the struggle they all strive to maintain their traditions. This includes their spirituality which is the heart of their cultures. Interestingly, there are striking similarities between them. The central ‘priest’, called the shaman, is present in every indigenous culture. Every shaman partakes in spiritual journeys by various means by which they all describe a three tier spiritual world. The tiers are described generally as the lower world, the middle world, and the upper world. It is common among all of them to interact with or become possessed by spirits. They are recognized early in life as having shamanistic qualities, with these qualities being comparable to schizophrenia in industrialized society. With all the objective connections, could everything these different hearts experience be subjective fantasy?
In modern science a new field has come about called epigenetics. Epigeneticists propose that our genes are directly manipulatable by our conscious actions. They have discovered that genetic signatures can be dynamically changed through methylation. In turn, methylation can be adjusted simply by the introduction of certain nutrients through diet. This has all been proven in studies involving the Agouti mouse. Taking a sizable but realistic leap, this study pertains to humankind. There have been numerous studies tracing the link between disposition and physical health. Generally optimists live longer and are healthier than pessimists. The point is that humans can control their physical health through mind and will.
Consider that all the indigenous cultures have had no means of communication between them. Plus, all these cultures are inherently resistant to outside influence of their innermost traditions. Therefore, it is inescapable that there are legitimate common spiritual truths between these unconnected cultures. It is also easy to see from epigenetics that the building blocks of life are reactive to consciousness. The spiritual realm is obviously real and what is behind the metaphysical listens to us. Could the being behind the curtain be an unconscious chaotic force? I think not.
