Does poetry matter in the 21st century?

Poetry does count in the 21st century. There were poets in the 16th century such as John Donne categorized as a Metaphysical Poet where he was able to combine reason with passion. This should not take away the recognition that our 21st century poets could have to offer. The decline is there and it is alarming to think about the poets out there who do not get the recognition they deserve. Perseverance can pay off in its self and we are now in the computerized ages where access to getting our poems out there is far easier then previous centuries.
We need to educate the young, allow them to strive for their goals as young artist. They need mentoring, so they can continue the trend of extraordinary individuals who will continue to exhibit their works. Poetry is not a dying art of any sort it is how we perceive the poets of today. There is no rhyming and at times, it does not feel like poetry but take a closer look. What is poetry, does it need to rhyme? Free flow, is said to be one of the easiest forms of poetry. Free flow poetry can be a starting point to develop other techniques and its pose is unique. I will always go back to emotion when writing about poetry, because what ever form we decide to use, it is what the content has to offer for the reader. You do not need a PHD to become a poet. This is not poetry. I believe most famous poets are gifted, and education was an added bonus. The smallest poems can leave a great impact.
We are only focusing on one part of the world, what about other countries? What can we learn from their techniques? This is a computerized world. There is so much out there. We just need to filter out the best poets. This will take time since our culture has boomed so quickly with the advancement of technology.
