Do you need a religion to be spiritual?

The answer to this question is a most vehement “No.” While religion does provide a course through which people may direct their spirituality, it is not necessary to the spiritual experience.

One possible avenue for explanation of this theory is the concept of love. In the idea of true love, those parties involved often report experiencing a spiritual connection with their significant others. Love, in this sense, has nothing to do with belonging to a particular religious group. Rather it is based upon human psychology. For this reason, it could be argued that even the greatly religious experience their spirituality only through a perceived psychological connection with the cosmological or the metaphysical realm.

Therefore, religion and spirituality are entirely separate entities, and, while they may be manifested relative to one another in selective situations, both may exist in entirely exclusive venues.
