<p>Weâ€™re plunging headlong into phenomenal change. Excitement about the new frontier in consciousness, with its promise of expanded awareness, collides with deep internal pulls to the familiar. We automatically repeat the same old story about who we are and how life is supposed to be.Â  Emotional responses to that narrative wash over us in a comforting way, even though they perpetuate habitual flows of pain and misery. Â  </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Where our mind goes, reality flows.Â  I recently watched the film, The Secret, which increased my awareness of the need to monitor the emotional pool that sustains our prevalent perception of self (based on past experience). Itâ€™s now important to disallow that â€œpoolâ€ to be the filter through which we create reality. The film describes the power of the Law of Attraction. It teaches us to train our mind to hold the description of what we want and to couple this mental out-picturing with the emotional fulfillment of actually living these realized desires. Although metaphysical laws of manifestation are simple to understand, theyâ€™re challenging to apply.</p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Vigorously potent frequencies blasted our planet on October 17th, 2006 toÂ create an efficacious portal of manifestation. These energies magnified everyoneâ€™s thoughts. People encouraged each other to harness the mind into full focus for world peace, as well as personal happiness and prosperity, during this cosmic shower of energetic augmentation.</p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Determined to be a good torch bearer, I dutifully sustained positive thinking, complete with its joy-filled emotional counterpart, for two entire days.Â  Wow, what a workout! My usual negative conditioning clawed at the outskirts of the wave of positivity that I determinedly held for 48 hours. How I longed to return to my customary way of thinking: fearing the worst, worrying about everything, wishing things were different while assuming that this is the way it will always be. My emotional body pressed against the newly-established levies of positivity, determined to flood me with its typical putrid sea of depression, frustration and resignation. Many of us live in those afflicted waters, with only occasional excursions into the fresh ocean of joy, happiness, contentment, inner peace and trust. I breathed a sigh of relief at the close of those two days.Â  Satisfied that I had done my part to contribute to the new consciousness for world peace and collective happiness, I eagerly returned to the lazy zone of my normal expectationsâ€”glad that I didnâ€™t have to make the big effort (exercise the spiritual muscles) to hold the focus required to consciously practice the Law of Attraction on an ongoing basis.</p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  To make the shift in consciousness, we must release attachment to human pathos and forsake our personal/collective melodrama.Â  Like Lotâ€™s wife, we dare not look back at the wasteland of our human experience so as not to be frozen in the entrainmentâ€”the poignancy of the human theaterâ€”the archetypal Greek drama.Â  We are cosmically mandated to describe a new reality that proclaims full self-actualization rather than be skewered to the rotten meat of the past.</p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  What we broadcast returns to us. To authentically represent the soul we must proclaim life to be a wondrous experience instead of allowing negative expectations to refuel our never-ending grade B movie. Â  Weâ€™re often trapped in the story (deeply ingrained in the unconscious) that describes the way we perceived childhood difficulties.Â  Mental patterns and emotional circuitry, crosshatched with false beliefs, relive these sentiments.Â  Childhood is a composite ofÂ karmic patterns requiring resolution.Â  Detachment from the magnetics within this karma break the fascination with the melodrama that maintains stagnation and victimhoodâ€”is necessary to create the reality we desire.Â </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Donâ€™t look backâ€”but donâ€™t repress!Â  We need to dig into the psyche to uncover and lance the boils of our afflictions.Â  We must brave the terrain of self-examination in order to chart the mystery of our being. To leave the numb zone of the repressed self, itâ€™s a necessity to tell our story. Then the feelings connected to the initial wounding that fragmented our birthright of wholeness can be re-experienced. Contact with our emotional past is essential. Like physical woundsâ€” if we canâ€™t touch them, we canâ€™t cure them.Â </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  However, thereâ€™s a fine line between reliving the past to restore injured parts of ourselves vs. recreating, through the Law of Attraction, the very pain we wish to remedy. The shadow of psychotherapy is activated through excessive repetition of the story of the damaged self which ironically reenergizes wounds.Â  Feeling like a broken record, we wonder why we canâ€™t change.Â  Although we want to honor the journey with all of its travails, need we savor every last morsel ofÂ misery before letting it go? The exquisite timing of the psyche naturally brings us to the next level of unfoldment when weâ€™ve brought compassionate healing to all the unconscious trapped feelings from childhood issues. Then our wisest move is to let go and not look back.Â </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Inventory of the wounds/patterns that no longer need review is a requirement to avoid the humiliating dynamic of being entrenched in patterns that are outworn, like being held back a grade in elementary school. Finally fed up with the tediousness of regurgitating the same old tale of woe, we decide to pioneer the unknownâ€”the truth of who we are becoming.Â </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  So much more than the outcome of our past, weâ€™re born anew each day with the opportunity to start fresh in our thinking/feeling.Â  Once weâ€™ve consciously integrated the buried/unhealed parts of ourselves, the past can be released. Every moment is a choice to look back or forward.Â  That choice, intensely powerful, unfolds our life.Â  What joy to leave it all behind and face the fresh horizon with the wonder that promises days of delight, bliss and fruition.Â </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  The Tibetan applauds my commitment to discontinue recycling the same old garbage. He teaches:</p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â   Yes, itâ€™s time for humankind to realize the powerful combination of the mind aligned with emotions. When students couple negative thinkingÂ with the resulting emotional counterpart to these pessimistic expectationsâ€” frustration, disappointment, resignation, unhappinessâ€” they inevitably create wretched experiences. Of course humankind has no conscious desire to make life miserable.Â  Itâ€™s simply caught in the sticky, stagnant comfort of mental habits, outmoded programming.Â </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  The wheel of repetitionâ€™s safety zone competes with the deeper impulse to evolve. The soul craves the â€œriskâ€ of opening to the grand potential of living a life that is beyond oneâ€™s wildest dreams. A leap of faith is required to truly believe self-actualization is a probable outcome in this lifetime. The large-scale arena of a self-realized existence is prodigiously far-reachingâ€”llike the Divine Mind &#8212; infinite in nature and often terrifying to the wounded ego which would rather hide in the mire of habitual thoughts/feelings than release its control.Â  Attempts to keep life small, manageable, predictable lead students to shortchange their possibilities by chronically repeating the same mental narrative. The emotional body flows in response to these habitual mental grooves.Â </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Fearful of being overwhelmed by the vastness of who they are, students block out the Sea of Magnificence.Â  They underrate their creative prerogative by assuming theyâ€™re victims of an unbending karma. But karma, highly alterable, transforms when oneâ€™s mindset changes.Â  Humankind must take responsibility to create the reality it wantsâ€”nothing less. The moment oneâ€™s fascination and identification with a fixed karmic pattern ends, the mind and emotions are liberated to support a brand new reality.</p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Leave all â€œbaggageâ€ at the shoreline of the Sea of Magnitude. Use discipline and vigilance to look forward toward the horizon of the emerging consciousness. Resist the stale seduction of the historical magnets that captivate the lower mind and imprison the imagination.Â  Break the emotional habits that wash away the potency of oneâ€™s creative channel. These obsolete heavy waters no longer cleanse the soul or quench the thirst of the spirit. Â </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  The emerging consciousness appears to be a strange, exciting, foreign realm that feels unnervingly spacious. Humankind may feel awkward, uncomfortable, uncertain in this new terrain. Students may be deeply disoriented and somewhat shocked at the presence of the unfathomable reality that lies beyond the tiny island of familiar mental and emotional patterns based on the old story of self. Although itâ€™s a relief to escape into comforting patterns of limiting expectations, to live in the refuge of automatic thinking is untenable at this time of massive evolution.Â </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Start to enjoy the rewards of mental strength that develop from purifying old thinking. Bask in the calm sweet waters that flow forth after cleansing the heavy emotional charges connected to the adversity within oneâ€™s story.Â  Soon this new terrain becomes well-establishedâ€” an original framework of thought patterns structuring amazing manifestation buoyed by a refined emotional response based in joy, fulfillment and peace. Â </p>
<p>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â  Daily unshackle self from the old story.Â  Dare to dwell in the openness of the unprogrammed self.Â  Write down the new story. Feel its impact of gratification. From moment to moment remember to shift thought patterns into a positive framework that carries energetic momentum and opens a new angle of perception/experience. Notice where self has already stopped looking back at obsolete stories and realize how liberating it is to truly disencumber the spirit from the confines of the past. Humankind, flooded with Light by the bright Ray of Possibility, actualizes its destiny of mastery of the Law of Attraction and creates a resplendent New World.</p>

<p>All of us, I am sure, wish for a life of abundance, health and wealth, relationships and what have you. There are those who are born with a silver spoon and blessed with good fortune throughout their lives. Luck seems to go with them wherever they go, well at least most of the times. Others are not so lucky and have to put up with challenges after challenges in their embattled lives and problems keep cropping up from time to time. To them, life is nothing but suffering.</p>
<p>To quote the revered and his holiness, the Dalai Lama, â€œLife is suffering. Our purpose in life is to seek happinessâ€.</p>
<p>What if there is a choice that we can make to turn things around? What if the unpleasant events and circumstances that we faced in the drudgery of living can be mitigated, lessened or dissolved with efforts on our part? Is hardship and adversity seems insurmountable? Can destiny be altered in our favor?

<p>Yes!</p>
<p>The answer to all the above may shock you but just thing for a minute â€“ Why is it that God made us the way we are? Each of us is unique and yet we are all the same â€“ nobodyâ€™s perfect! Do we wait for divine intervention or some miracles to happen before we hope to see the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?</p>
<p>Not if we can help it!</p>
<p>At birth, we are given a set of pillars to be our foundation and it is up to us to build upon them. Our destiny code is ingrained in these pillars but the power to steer the hands of destiny is within our control albeit measured.</p>

<p>- strengths and weaknesses &#8211; affinity and detachment &#8211; characteristics and eccentricities</p>
<p>Our pillars of destiny contain the hidden factors that govern our success in life and how the above are played out depends on how we make use of these factors:-</p>
<p>- Self &#8211; Output &#8211; Wealth &#8211; Influence &#8211; Resource</p>
<p>All the above factors are interdependent on one another and how we use them holistically is the key to maneuvering destiny in our favor. This is the concept of the Chinese metaphysical science of Astrology known as the Four Pillars of Destiny.</p>
<p>Energized Yourself!</p>
<p>We are all affected by our living environment. The place we live, the location our house is sited, the landscape in our vicinity and the internal space within our home are channels where energy or life force known as â€œQiâ€ flow. This energy gives life to all living things and is dispersed by the wind and gathers at the boundary of water. The Chinese called it â€œFeng Shuiâ€ which simply means wind and water.</p>
<p>This energy wax and wane through time and is inclined towards certain compass direction and location. If properly tapped, it gives prosperity and harmony to the inhabitants of a property in terms of health, wealth and relationships. The secret is in identifying, locating, containing and tapping into this energy using the Chinese compass known as the â€œLuo Panâ€.</p>
<p>Be Proactive!</p>
<p>&#8220;Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.&#8221;</p>
<p>This is the quote by the British Statesman and literary figure, Benjamin Disraeli. How true! Everything that happened to us is a result of the actions taken by us or by others. If we want something in life, we have to take action, without it nothing happen. We can sit around and bemoan the sad state of affairs we are in or we can be proactive and start making positive changes to our lives. The choice is ours to take.</p>

<p>Let me start off by saying that this is not meant to be an in-depth course on Metaphysics, but only a short introduction into the Metaphysical world. For more detailed information, please visit <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphysics">Wikipedia&#8217;s Metaphysics page</a>.</p>
<p>To some, metaphysics is a science. To others, metaphysics is a pseudoscience. To others still, metaphysics is a way of life. Most people understand the basics of physics, which is the study of the physical laws of the Universe: the &#8220;hows&#8221;.</p>
<p>Metaphysics, on the other hand, tries to focus on the &#8220;whys&#8221;. Metaphysicians attempt to find the <i>cause</i> of those physical and natural laws; the reason for their being.</p>
<p>The study of metaphysics includes investigation of space, time, causality, and the very nature of our existence.</p>
<p>This question has plagued humankind ever since we could think: &#8220;<b>Why are we here?</b>&#8220;</p>
<p>A prominent belief in metaphysics is that the human mind is actually the creator, or more accurately, the shaper of our world. Quantum physics is beginning to merge into the realm of metaphysics, stating that the human mind is actually what causes certain behavior of quantum particles. <p>Metaphysics has the most independent theories, meaning that the majority of them cannot be proven or disproven, but to the metaphysician, the proof lies in their own experiments, in their own minds. This is one reason that metaphysics has been shunned by modern science, as the results are not often objective. To this, the metaphysician would reply that <i>reality</i> is not objective.</p>
<p>I suppose, then, that it is a matter of personal belief. Anyone who does not want to accept metaphysics, will not accept it, and those that do, will. It is, however, an <i>extremely</i> fascinating field of thought.</p>

<p>A new film, The Secret, purports that the secret of happiness is embedded in a subtle, but universal law, called the Law of Attraction.  In the view of the 52 expert teachers, a collage of world famous metaphysical, business, personal development, health and financial counselors, it is ignorance of the Law of Attraction that has caused so much unhappiness on Earth and is the major cause of world poverty. For most of these teachers, authors, consultants and scholars, an understanding of these laws would produce abundance, love, and peace in one&#8217;s life.</p>
<p>In The Secret, the Universe is like a giant well, an infinitely abundant well, from which we can extract anything that we truly desire. What it takes is persistent visualization and commitment to a goal, which is, for the moment, entirely invisible in the sensible world. The only thing that can block this flow of abundance are negative emotions born out of the bitterness that comes with continuous defeat and frustration with life.

After all, according to these theorists, what is happening now- whether an unpleasant bill or a declining relationship- is based on the thoughts and feelings of the past. But, there is plenty in the present-your friends, your house, your job- depending on the person- that is worth thinking about in a positive way.</p>
<p>In fact, according to experts, it even pays to show gratitude for things you have not received.  This is somewhat in accordance with the New Testament, Mark 11:23, &#8220;Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.&#8221; See it, visualize and thank God for it-and it will surely arrive.</p>
<p>To deploy the technology of gratitude, one must go against the natural tendency to lament, complaint, stress and be angry when unpleasant circumstances arrive. To assist in this gentle form of combat against the negative forces within himself, Lee Brower, one of the teachers in The Secret, found that he could use a rock as a reminder and point of focus for invoking the emotion of gratitude. Later, when a South African friend and visitor noticed Brower&#8217;s daily efforts to invoke gratitude, using the rock as a fulcrum, he began calling the rock &#8220;the gratitude rock.&#8221; A gift from Bower of later played a critical role when his friends son was diagnosed with a deadly form of hepatitis and recovered completely thanks to the power of gratitude.</p>
<p>In the view of Brower and his friend in South Africa, these rocks, when utilized properly, can play a critical role in transforming lives.</p>

<p>In the modern context, how we face adversities in life and whether we are successful in the pursuit of our goals and aspirations will depend on the conditions of our living space or environment and our attitudes and actions. Just like a general who fortified his fortress to make it impenetrable, how do we make our environment conducive to living a successful life? By tapping into the positive energy of the environment using Feng Shui of course!</p>
<p>As Sun Tzu advises;-</p>
<p>“It is a principle of war that we do not assume the enemy will not come, but instead be prepared for his coming, not to presume the enemy will not attack, but instead to make our own position invincible to ensure victory.”</p>
<p>By knowing our natal chart based on the four pillars of destiny and our luck cycle over the course of our life using the intrinsic luck pillars, we can use Feng Shui as a moderator to overcome anticipated challenges and at the same time, as an enabler to achieve our goals and purpose in life. Our house is a gateway for Qi to enter and collect. By positioning the front door of our house in the auspicious location and direction based on compass reading, we can tune into the positive energy of our environment for harmony and prosperity and avoid negative energy which brings misfortune and calamity. Depending on the facing direction of a house, it is generally auspicious to have a mountain or hill at the back of the house to act as support and a lake or water catchments area in front of the house for Qi to settle.</p>
<p>Apart from our destiny’s chart and Feng Shui, we can always rely on our own free will as well. When the going gets tough and life is but a struggle, our attitude and action will partly determine whether the battle is won or lost.</p>

<p>“We move where there is advantage to be gained; we halt when there is none. A wise general considers both the advantages and disadvantages at his disposal. When considering the advantages, he makes his plans viable; when considering the disadvantages, he finds a way to extricate himself from the pitfalls.”</p>
<p>When going through a luck pillar of prosperity, we shall make every opportunity count and when going through a luck pillar of despair, we keep a low profile and cut our losses.</p>
<p>The hallmark of a great general is best sum up by the man himself;-</p>
<p>“If you know yourself and know your enemy; in a hundred battles, you will not fear the outcome. When you know yourself but not your enemy, your chances of winning or losing is equal. If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you are sure to be in peril in every battle.”</p>
<p>Therefore, how do these systems of Chinese war strategies and metaphysical science help us in the reality of modern times? It teaches us to be empowered by knowing our strengths and weakness, to be energized by tapping into the energies of our environment and to be proactive in taking destiny into our own hands for the same goal – victory!</p>

Now, scientists at the University of California and other institutes have been able to take a look at some very dramatic, pictures by looking at a scan of a slice of a normally functioning &#8220;live&#8221; human brain that is the thickness of less than 1/100,000th of a human hair! Not true! Your brain is constantly growing NEW connections and NEW neuron patterns, every second of every minute of every day of your life! This means that your capacity is almost limitless! You are today a different person than you were yesterday! You are not the same today as you will be tomorrow!</p>

<p>You are constantly capable of CHANGE! Your brain&#8217;s neuron patterns and connections are moving and changing with every thought, learning task, or memory that you experience! The total number and capacity of new connections, and new skills and learning neuron patterns that EACH of our individual brains can form, is the number 1 followed by 6.2 million miles of zeros! <p>Water and writers block!</p>
<p>
<p>You probably already know that water is important for your body to function properly. But do you really know how vitally important it is? You&#8217;ve seen marathon runner&#8217;s collapse halfway through the race due to dehydration because they didn&#8217;t drink at the first water posts because they weren&#8217;t thirsty at the time. And maybe you concluded that since you are not a professional top athlete water isn&#8217;t that essential for your performance and general health. But that is false information. YOU must drink lots of water.</p>
<p>
<p>And maybe you&#8217;ve heard that we can live without food for a very long time, but will succumb because of lack of fluids and brushed this information off because you may have though the likelihood of you ending up in the desert without food and water is miniscule. But we must to pay more attention to water. You know, when we think we have writers block or are finding it a challenge to remember our lines &#8230; well my friend it could simply mean that our brain is not functioning correctly because it is simply not hydrated enough. So when we have creative work to do we MUST DRINK WATER J.</p>
<p>
<p>Your brain which only makes up 1% to 2% of your body weight use over 30% of your water-intake, so it&#8217;s no surprise that even small water deficits has a crucial impact on your brain. And a poor brain performance has a direct impact on how much new stuff that you can learn and how well you remember it. And remember that less water will reach your brain since 45% of the water in your body travels in your blood vessels and if your blood pressure goes down, so goes the flow of water in your body.</p>
<p>
<p>Your concentration can drop as much as 10% and just 5% dehydration will drop the performance of your brain severely, that&#8217;s severely as in a 50%+ drop. And don&#8217;t count on thirst to be a reliable indicator of when you should drink your next glass of water because by the time you are thirsty it&#8217;s already too late, you are 2% dehydrated and your performance has already dropped 10%.</p>
<p>
<p>You see, DSP&#8217;s or Dendrite Spiny Protrusions or Protuberances grow in our brain when we learn, or as we learn, it is vital to learn new stuff and in vital in our creative writing process and to keep our memory healthy. And contrary to common belief and scientific truths just a decade ago the ability to learn has nothing to do with the number of brain cells, but with the number of DSP&#8217;s you generate. So even if your brain cells wither and die it won&#8217;t affect your ability to learn as long as you give your</p>

<p>DSP&#8217;s the best growing conditions &#8211; water and nutrients.</p>
<p>
<p>Memory</p>
<p>
<p>How many of you are worried about gradually losing your memory? Well first of all, you need to remember to stop worrying about those things you can&#8217;t control! But you CAN control or even improve your memory!</p>
<p>
<p>Losing your memory seems to be the great terror of our age. We are constantly assessing the fitness of our memory, but one of the great positives about this is that if you take steps to improve your memory, it can be a shortcut to an even more tempting goal: improving your intelligence! Yes we can become smarter!! And it in this area that research is just starting to jump in and find some great results and ideas that can be again applied outside the medical field into the self-motivation and achievement field.</p>
<p>
<p>The most important finding from the research is that memory is effected by the usage levels of our neuron patterns. In other words, if we, as we get older, use certain neuron connections and patterns less and less, those patterns literally atrophy, and it is much more difficult for nerve impulses (thoughts) to go down those pathways. This is a problem that is absolutely easily remedied! The old adage, &#8220;Use it or lose it!&#8221; vital for you. As we get older, we become more consistent in our daily lives, with certain patterns of activity developing. We drive along the same routes and stuck in the same rut day after day, with the same activities. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, &#8220;Foolish consistency is the is the hobgoblin for a wasted life.&#8221; This is bad for the brain! And remember Emerson said &#8220;Foolish Consistency,&#8221; which to me means doing the same things we have always done and then expecting things in our lives to change!</p>

<p>It is like trying to be a world-class wrestler like our good mate Rock was and by only exercising your left arm and nothing more. It doesn&#8217;t work. What can we you do about it? Get out of our so-called rut. Drive a different way every day. Read different magazines, take new trips, and try new things. And above all, exercise ALL of your brain. Begin to REALLY listen when others are speaking. STOP yourself from immediately cutting in with YOUR stuff. Listen and you will learn and grow more DSP&#8217;s. And please do not waste your life.</p>

<p>Today is a beautiful Sunday and people are out and about enjoying the sunshine. I am here in my office writing this article about Brain Power as this is not only helping me grow new DSP&#8217;s it is also helping you. It IS important to enjoy our lives of course however lets not waste our precious time doing the same old stuff over and over again. And believe me I am in heaven writing this now. I am ENJOYING my day immensely.</p>
<p>
<p>Let us all now get out of our old thinking boxes. Let us ALL Learn about NEW things. Another thing that we can do is get smarter that our brain! As we get older our brain tries to outsmart us. It is a biological fact that the brain cannot store energy. It constantly needs to replenish its energy after it performs a given function. When we get a great idea or new thought from the universe, it is first placed into short-term memory. Unless this thought or idea is then taken by us and put into long-term memory, the idea will disappear or dissipate within 30 seconds to 12 minutes. So it is vital that we use artificial methods to take down these new thoughts. Write it down or do what I do and carry a small tape recorder with you wherever you go. Later I put these ideas into a tape folder and then catalog them. When I do have time to write a new song or book chapter etc I go to my tape file and have them transcribed.</p>
<p>
<p>It has been said that ALL of us, each year, have about four great new ideas, that if we acted upon any one of them with persistence, that idea could make us millions of dollars! I am sure there MUST have been a time when saw a new product or business or book and you said to yourself, &#8220;Oh my Gosh I had that idea. Someone has stolen MY idea.&#8221; Well my friend YOU did not take action on an idea that probably quite a few others were given from the Universe on that same day. So get all of these new ideas down before your shot term memory loses them forever. I really think that these new ideas are floating around in space and a few of us take in these ideas at the same time however it is the individual THAT takes action first, who deserves the success!</p>
<p>
<p>Now back to some more brain power facts&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.</p>
<p>
<p>New brain-research confirms that the repetition of statements over and over forms new neural pathways (neurodes), that can subsequently fire as a &#8220;belief&#8221;, and that when this neural &#8220;belief&#8221; pattern fires, it will trigger new activity or actions on the part of the individual, directly in line and consistent with this new belief! This was written about by Napoleon Hill in his book &#8220;Think and Grow Rich,&#8221; Norman Vincent Peale in his book, &#8220;The Power Of Positive Thinking&#8221; and Claude M Bristol in his book, &#8220;The Magic of Believing&#8221; and these authors were all writing about this back in the 1920&#8217;s, 30&#8217;s and 40&#8217;s.</p>
<p>
<p>It&#8217;s so wonderful to know that the things we&#8217;re speaking about today as far as the metaphysical, and remember &#8220;Meta&#8221; just means beyond or above the physical. Which means whenever you are thinking, you are being metaphysical. It&#8217;s as simple as that, it&#8217;s not woo woo stuff.</p>
<p>
<p>Now, let&#8217;s have a look at some of these statistics. We have 100 billion brain cells. WOW!! Now, the brain is stimulated, no matter what our age, when we begin to thing about something new or when we start to create new thoughts. When we start to learn something new, the brain is stimulated and it begins to form &#8220;Dendrite Spiny Protrusions&#8221;, which we will call &#8220;DSPs.&#8221;</p>
<p>
<p>An individual may have just learned a new language or just become emotionally excited about something new and they are starting to think. They are thinking of something NEW (ideas and thoughts not presently in their old subconscious list or memories) they are thinking, so DSPs are being formed. When you are emotional or excited, even if you are pretending to be excited and at the same time learning something new it is a powerful combination and it has been proven that DSPs will then be formed irrespective of what our present age.</p>
<p>
<p>You know even if we are just acting happy and emotional and not really feeling it&#8230;.. It STILL works. So, act as if and you will become. This is extremely important to know. Even if you are just pretending and you start saying out loud, &#8220;Whoa! I&#8217;m excited. I&#8217;m really excited.&#8221; Even if there are doubts and fears lying underneath, you will still get new DSPs growing in your brain. So keep doing that for all of your life so your brain stays stimulated. Let&#8217;s repeat this about being emotionally excited, even if you&#8217;re pretending. You can absolutely get this information instantly into your long-term memory as well, which is also extremely important.</p>
<p>
<p>Now something else that is absolutely phenomenal that they&#8217;ve found out recently is that we have 6 levels of thinking. But did you know that only 1/6 of those six levels is the conscious mind. Where we think we&#8217;re thinking all the time and it is only 1/6 of it, the other 5/6 of our thinking is all done in the subconscious, which is where we are creating our belief systems. That is why the information you are learning about your own conscious mind, the subconscious mind, and how to change the thinking patterns is vital. 5/6 of your thinking is done at the other levels and it&#8217;s going to create for you stuff anyway even if you don&#8217;t consciously choose it so PLEASE think about what YOU DO WANT and create a great life and new positive belief systems.</p>
<p>
<p>Remember our past is not a precedent for our future!! I too have to constantly remind myself of this. If someone in your past did something you do not like it DOES not mean that others will also do the same. We HAVE to learn to trust again and to be our VERY best with each and every new audition or life experience. We have to GET over the past sad or negative experiences in order to create a new happy successful life experiences.</p>
<p>
<p>So, isn&#8217;t THIS ALL EXCITING ? I love neuroscience because it&#8217;s proven that even our doubts and fears cannot stop our success. We can even pretend our way to success. Cary Grant said, &#8220;I pretended to be Cary Grant for so long I ended up becoming Cary Grant.&#8221;</p>
<p>
<p>That&#8217;s it! Now my friend&#8230;. go ahead and use your brain power and BE HAPPY!</p>

<p><P>What makes the difference between two children raised in the same environment with the same parents when one ends up a neuro-surgeon and the other a hardened violent criminal? What makes the difference between two patients suffering in a hospice center from identical conditions when one requires very little medication and is liked by all, while the other suffers bitterly regardless of the medication and no one really wants to be around them? What are the subtle differences that seem to allow one person to live a certain life style free of illness while another doing the same things becomes ill as a result? What defines a stimulus as stressful to one while the same exact stimulus is welcomed with excitement by another? The answer is so simple as to be overly obvious.</P><br />
<P>In my work, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of individuals in differing settings, ranging from the inmate incarcerated in maximum security to the terminal patient in the hospice center. Over the years my observations ultimately led to this hypothesis: the persons who seem to suffer most consider themselves to be victims. The classic victim scenario in the prison generally goes something like this: all but for the grace of God there go you. Translated by the inmate population, this means something like, &#8220;What would you do? Where would you be? After all, my daddy was an alcoholic, my mother was a prostitute and the neighbor boy hung heroine on me when I was only eight&#8221;.</P><br />
<P>The fact is, our environment and circumstance do imprint us in profound ways. Our very ability to cope depends in large on our choices and they are predetermined in large by our enculturation process. Thus, what else could the victim of these tragedies do?</P><br />
<P>We all grow up with some substantially similar ideas and notions about what is fair and acceptable. We all tend to say things like &#8220;When I&#8217;m a parent, I&#8217;ll do it differently&#8221;; and yet, when our children act in some way that meets with our disapproval, we respond just as our parents did. Psychologist call this process imprinting. In very simple terms, if you raise a duckling with chickens, it will behave as a chicken. There is a marvelous story that illustrates this point.</P><br />
<P>It seems one day that an eagle flew over a chicken coop. To his amazement, pecking in the yard below, was a large gathering of chickens and a lone, beautiful female eagle. He swooped down for a closer look and the chickens together with the eagle fled to the chicken house. For days the eagle watched the chickens from a distance until one day he was certain that he could stop the beautiful eagle before she reached the chicken house. With the prowess of an eagle he was suddenly in between the eagle and the chicken house. She trembled. He spoke, &#8220;What are you doing living down here like a chicken&#8221;. She answered, &#8220;I am a chicken&#8221;. He argued, showing her the similarities between himself and her. He told her of what it was like to be an eagle and soar high above the earth. His stories only frightened her. Finally she said, &#8220;Well if I&#8217;m an eagle then you will not harm me&#8221;. He responded in the affirmative. She said, &#8220;Then step back and show me.&#8221; As he stepped backed she seized the opportunity to run into the chicken house. When the other chickens questioned her about the encounter, she told them all of how she had outsmarted the eagle. Of course, all the chickens commended her for tricking the eagle.</P><br />
<P>Many of us are like the female eagle. We outsmart ourselves with betrayals of who we really are. Our choices are predicated on our beliefs and our beliefs have been adopted from the same process inherent to the story about the chickens and the chicken house. Here is another example of how this kind of reason pervades who and what we are.</P><br />
<P>One day a man walking the streets of Manhattan passed beneath a high rise complex that consisted of very expensive condominiums. As he passed under the balcony of one of the two story units a flower pot which had been placed precariously close to the balcony edge fell and crashed down on his head. Now imagine this man&#8217;s choices. What could he do? What would be the normal thing to do? Well, he could take the broken pot back to its owners and put it guess where. Administer a beating to the idiot that put the flower pot too close to the edge, that&#8217;s what most people respond with as their first thought when I have presented this scenario to audiences. What else could he do? Well, he could be metaphysical. You know, kismet, what&#8217;s to be will be, after all, maybe the blow to his head rearranged some neurons and now he will experience higher consciousness. So just be metaphysical and act as if it was supposed to happen and just go on down the road. What else could he do? Well, he could be an opportunist. You know that flower pot fell from a wealthy person&#8217;s ledge. Whip lash, concussion, something like that&#8212;sue the sucker!</P><br />
<P>What else could he do? What would you do? How about taking the flower to a florist, potting it and returning it as a gift of love? Could you just as well do that? Of all the possibilities, which one do you think would produce the best outcome for yourself in terms of happiness, wholeness and even health?</P><br />
<P>The fact is, the normal person has been trained to behave in a normal manner. Normal means that they have a right to become angry and exact punishment. Robert Laing once said something like &#8220;normal man has educated himself to be normal and thus to become absurd&#8221; in his book THE POLITICS OF EXPERIENCE. The emotional reaction termed anger is just one such absurdity. What happens to the body when one becomes normal is no less than a weakening of the immune system and further, suspended states of fight flight, or as we know it in more modern man, anxiety and depression, literally produce chemistry that is toxic to the human condition. As Dr.&#8217;s Steven Locke and Douglas Colligan point out in their book, THE HEALER WITHIN, these hostile emotions, victim, if you will, feelings, literally can condition the body in the direction of disease as well as produce certain diseases in and of themselves (1986).</P><br />
<P>The correct answer in our flower pot analogy is of course, pot the flower and return it as a gift. The idea is not foreign in terms of possible alternatives and yet it is seldom ever considered. Our choices arise from our definitions and they have been incubated all too often in chicken houses, but let&#8217;s stop for a moment and look at one of the preferred enculturated choices from the human chicken house. My work and research has demonstrated that for every fear there is an anger response. Sometimes the anger is withheld, turned in, and sometimes it is acted out. Nevertheless, there is no such thing as anger without some fear underpinning it! Now, what exactly is anger? My examination of this cycle of fear and anger has given rise to an acronym that I often use when describing anger. A&#8212;a, N&#8212;nasty, G&#8212;getting, E&#8212;even, R&#8212;response. A nasty getting even response. If fear and anger are circular, what is it that gives rise to feeling frightened, anxious or nervous, becoming angry and responding in a fight/flight way when the stimulus is something like the way my employer speaks to me, the way my significant other looks at me, or just the stuff one feels when cut off in five o&#8217;clock traffic and given the infamous bird. None of these things are truly life threatening and after all, isn&#8217;t that what the fight/flight functions are wired in for, the preservation of the species?</P><br />
<P>Dr. Carl LaPresch used to speak of the four &#8220;F&#8217;s&#8221; in his introductory lectures regarding basic psychology. These four primitive drives were the basis for most behavior. In fact, it was Carl who first suggested to me that perhaps the highest act of human consciousness was cortical inhibition&#8212;over riding the wired in responses that can occur in the primitive brain. The four &#8220;f&#8217;s&#8221; are easy to remember and oriented to species preservation: fight, flight, feeding and&#8212;well the propagation of the species.</P><br />
<P>Why then a fight/flight response to a synthetic stimuli&#8212;that is a stimuli that is not life threatening? What special lens do we attach to certain events in life that give rise to a perception of threat when indeed the threat is not a tiger in hot pursuit? My early hypothesis regarding the fear/anger loop eventually led to the conclusion that perceived threats were rejection oriented. In other words, our individual intrinsic value was denied. Interestingly though, for most of us, the normal strategy for avoiding rejection is itself the ultimate rejection. There are two ways to be tied up in the world. One is to have someone literally bind you and another is simply to tether oneself to a thread, refusing either to pull hard enough to break it or to let it go. Many of our beliefs are the product of the latter. We refuse to let them go. Like the eagle raised by the chickens, we know what we are expected to do and define our behavior accordingly. Thus, to resolve conflict we establish strategies designed to protect us from rejection. Among these strategies our defense mechanisms function, as well as our attitudes, toward everything we will encounter in our lives.</P><br />
<P>When I was a boy my definitions included labels and what I have termed for years as the no-don&#8217;t syndrome. In my many lectures throughout America and Europe, the audience has repeatedly verified that my experience was not unique. Indeed, it was the rule. If this generalization applies, then most of us were raised with statements like: &#8220;You&#8217;re not old enough.&#8221; &#8220;You&#8217;re stupid or that&#8217;s stupid.&#8221; &#8220;Children are to be seen and not heard.&#8221; &#8220;Don&#8217;t do this&#8221;&#8212;&#8221;you can&#8217;t do that&#8221;&#8212;and so forth as well as a host of labels.</P><br />
<P>It was not long before I was wearing glasses and one of my best friends was black. My early definitions were in direct conflict with my experience; still, various strategies for coping with this conflict developed, albeit most unconsciously.</P><br />
<P>It wasn&#8217;t until I was in my thirties that I learned that not only did I wear glasses and have black friends, but my grandfather was Jewish and my great grandmother was Native American. For years I had coped by demonstrating that I was &#8220;tough enough&#8221; to wear glasses and not get called four-eyes and to stand up for what just inherently seemed wrong and later became known to me as bigotry and racism. In other words, my defense strategy was compensatory&#8212;aggression would align my inner with the outer&#8212;my experience with my training as a child could avoid conflict by simply becoming too tough for someone to challenge my behavior.</P><br />
<P>The result was devastating. Not only did I poison myself, but the never ending quest to justify my actions produced increasing needs for aggression. My relationships deteriorated and/or were destroyed, and well, you can just imagine the havoc wreaked in my own life. The method of choice for conflict in my particular upbringing was aggressive&#8212;and hostility was the norm.</P><br />
<P>What I have found over the years of life and work is that once again, this was not a unique pattern. Oh, the circumstances may vary from individual to individual, but the essence of the lesson never did. The result for many of us is a mechanism called blame. That brings us right back to our inmate whose daddy was an alcoholic and so forth. Alas, a light went on that set years of work and research into perspective, at least for me.</P><br />
<P>Now here is the bottom line: as long as one blames anything or anyone they are effectively tied up. There is nothing they can do. They are victims of their circumstances. They can only but whimper. As victims, they are helpless. As victims, perhaps they are even due benefits such as sympathy, attention, special care and so on. But as victims, they are not in charge of their circumstances and/or their responses.</P><br />
<P>Applying this theory I discovered that regardless of the circumstances, from hospice to prison, the suffering was directly related to blame or &#8220;victim-hood&#8221;. What is more, I discovered that on the opposite side of this continuum, rested the self responsible. The person who assumed control of their own life and found creative solutions for difficult situations&#8212;returning the flower, if you will, replanted in a new flower pot.</P><br />
<P>These responsible individuals were in charge of their own inner environments. Their secret was simple, they did not become angry and involved in blame. Oh they did not necessarily accept everyone or anything, in fact, quite the contrary in some instances, but they did not waste time eliminating their possibilities by divesting their power via blame. They took the initiative to resolve situations positively and assumed the responsibility for doing so. Unlike the whimpering victim, they were what they made of the stuff of life and accepted so.</P><br />
<P>There is an interesting experiment that has been replicated many times and perhaps addresses the effect this kind of hopelessness/helplessness mentality can have on physical health. Dogs were placed in Pavlovian slings where they could do nothing when electric shock was administered by psychologist Martin Seligman at the University of Pennsylvania in an experiment to determine the effects of helplessness. Seligman suggests that many of us have learned that nothing can be done in many circumstances to make a difference. Once the dogs were conditioned to the shock they were then placed in cages with floors that on one side of the cage an electric grid could be used to apply shock while on the other side of a low barrier wall the dog could escape the shock. What Seligman discovered has many ramifications. Dogs who had not been conditioned in the sling ran around frantically when shock was first administered. They learned to jump the small wall and escape the shock. They became so good at it that when the electricity was turned on, they simply got up and casually jumped over the wall. However, dogs that had been conditioned to the sling ran frantically at first just as the unconditioned dogs but soon quit and only whimpered. They accepted the shock passively and thus the whimpering shocked dog metaphor (Ibid). This sense or conditioned belief in victim-hood has been demonstrated to effect the immune system in a negative manner. The Institute of Noetic Sciences has funded much of the research in what is now termed PNI or psychoneuroimmunology and this body of work shows clearly, as does the entire body of literature regarding mind/body wellness, that the deleterious effects of certain mental processes on the body can literally kill ( ). Nothing I could do&#8212;helplessness&#8212;victim-hood&#8212;this side of the responsibility equation is among the worst of mental processes one can adopt regardless of its source. In fact, in a paper that is now in press, we learned from a follow-up study of terminally diagnosed patients conducted by PROGRESSIVE AWARENESS RESEARCH, that the physicians attitude is somehow more influential on patient life expectancy than either the treatment modality or the patients attitude toward their future, their responsibility regarding the disease and/or their outcome expectation. Somehow the attitude of the physician is assumed to have been communicated to the patient for in every single instance where the physicians responded to the questionnaire regarding patients role in terms of the positive use of their mind with neutral to negative evaluation, the patient died. The study generally indicated a survival rate of over 30% for all respondents (remission) and an increase in life by up to three years over time given in prognosis for those patients whose physicians generally agreed that the mind has a role in patient health even in the face of &#8220;terminal&#8221; illness. The assumption suggests that one must fully accept the responsibility for their own lives and mental processes even if that means guarding against the influence of another.</P><br />
<P>What then is the pragmatic to overcome, or I prefer, to outgrow, this early conditioning. Once again, it&#8217;s so simple as to be difficult&#8212;difficult to believe and difficult to do. The answer is forgive! In my research we began applying three messages as cognitive tools to untie the victim. They are called the forgiveness set and consist of these three statements: I forgive myself; I forgive all others; and I am forgiven.</P><br />
<P>When you forgive, you can not blame. If you do not blame it&#8217;s exceedingly difficult to become angry. What you cannot become angry about, you do not fear. When there is nothing to fear, there is nothing to become angry about or no one to blame. Life is simply a miracle and living is the process of maximizing the miraculous experience. Every thought or deed becomes therefore differently oriented. When you accept responsibility for everything in your universe, you gain the power to make changes. The real changes are made in you and thus your experience of life and self become qualitatively different almost immediately.</P><br />
<P>You are in charge of your inner environment, and your beliefs, attitudes and emotions do matter to you. Your health, your enjoyment of life, your ability to become all that you are is inescapably involved in your ability to forgive and let go.</P><br />
<P>But alas, you may say, that&#8217;s all too simple and further life sucks and then we die. And I am sure you can find many that will agree. Still, if you want to see the barnyard from the sky, spread your wings and see for yourself. Seeing is believing. Try it&#8212;I promise, you&#8217;ll like it. And if necessary, fake it until you make it.</P><br />
